Gregory University, Uturu, have again achieved another mile stone in her quest to bring the best in terms of knowledge and skills for her scholars and by extension to Nigeria as well as her neighboring countries, by being the first higher institution where center for immigration law studies was situated.
The center will be an internationally recognized university based institution that combines academic excellence, knowledge dissemination in the field of law, while providing vigor in immigration policy formulation within Nigeria and her West Africa neighbors.
According to the chancellor of Gregory University, Uturu, Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, said that the center came to be because of their belief that universities should be a place where solutions are provided for the mirides of problems bedeviling the society. ” In future we will be providing specialized trainings like the study of immigration law that will provide opportunity for cross fertilization of ideas in specialized and specific areas to assist governments at all levels to solve the society’s challenges. Very soon we will include the customs since there are similarities between them and immigration”. He said.
The center for immigration law studies, they say, will lead the provision of specialized academic and practical hands on the job legal training for students, as well as a think tank, devoted exclusively to research on immigration policy.
According to the doctor center for immigration law studies of Gregory University, Uturu, Prince Ebere Nwokoro, the center was a product of the institution’s chancellor Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, who he said, set out to create a new kind of university where nothing was spared to bequeath lasting legacies of qualitative / quality education to the scholars. “The center for immigration law studies is a product of this audacity and it’s concept is in consonance with the university’s remarkable trajectory over the past few years of transforming itself from a largely modest citidal of learning to one of the country’s formost research university. The center is the first of its kind in Nigeria and is designed to promote schorlarly study of immigration law, policy, practice processes and procedures. It is suitably located in the college of law within pricints of GUU” he stressed.
Also delivering the keynote address on the theme; Future of Immigration Law and Policy in Nigeria, member Commonwealth Arbitral Tribunal, London, Professor Epiphany Azinge, said that until 2015 Nigeria was still using the 1963 pre colonial immigration law………….
