NCDC Commissions AE-FUTHA Molecular Lab
The National Centre Disease Control, NCDC, has commissioned a newly built Molecular Laboratory in Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA)
The Laboratory located at the Viral Research, Treatment and Control Centre of the health institution was on Tuesday commissioned by Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu who is the Director General of NCDC while the Federal Ministry of Health took up the sole role of equipping the Laboratory.
Addressing the people, Dr Chikwe expressed optimism that Lab would turn out an overall centre for Science in the country while he called on the management to available workers the opportunity for the best use of the Laboratory.
In his speech, the AE-FUTHA Board Chairman, Dr Tijjani Ramalan, however expressed gratitude over the successfully completion of the project despite the fact that it was quite challenging.
He further described the project as one of the brave moves towards converting the Teaching Hospital to the attraction centre for all Tourists within and outside the country.
On his own part, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Emeka Onwe Ogah lauded Dr Chikwe for carrying out such a health project for the sake, growth of hospital and wellbeing of the citizens.
Moreover, the Director thanked the Federal Ministry of Health for assisting to equip the hospital under President Buhari’s administration while he noted that the Viral Research, Treatment and Control Centre is the only centre recently in use for both South-East and South-South regions of the country and so called for its conversion to Regional Centre (RC)
