Sir Oko Chukwu , ABHA Speaker Hails NCWS, Reiterates Stand On Gender Equality
The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has commended the State Chapter of the National Council For Women’s Societies for their committment in complimenting Government’s efforts towards the growth of the State and Society at large.
Sir Oko Chukwu who made the commendation during the Summit and Grand Awards ceremony with the Theme ” Abia Women Unstoppable” organised by the State Chapter of the National Council For Women’s Societies (NCWS) held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia noted that the present administration have been able to go this far as a result of their wonderful partnership and contributions which they are not taking for granted.
The Deputy Governor disclosed that Government on its part has encouraged women in the State to attain greater heights and be at par with their male counterparts in areas of advocacy and sensitisation programs having recognised their roles in State and Nation building and expressed delight that the World Trade Organisation is currently headed by a woman.
He used the forum to appreciate the State Chapter of NCWS for the wonderful honours bestowed on them which will go a long way to challenge, encourage and spur them to do more in advancing the cause of the womenfolk and assured that they will not let them down, but live up to expectations.
Speaking after receiving an award for Excellent Performance, the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Chinedum Orji while commending the State Chapter of NCWS for their support to the present administration, lauded the wife of the Governor, Mrs Nkechi lkpeazu for her role in not only galvanising Abia women unto Progressive parts, but for her penchant in alleviating the plights of the indigents across the State.
Chief Orji noted that in being sensitive to the plights of women and the girl child in the State, the House of Assembly through the support of the wife of the Governor passed the Abia State Diasporan Bill into law and is poised to pass other bills that are gender sensitive into law for the common good of all.
Also speaking the presentation of an award for selfless service to humanity, the Chairman on the occasion and Managing Director, Each One, AID One Foundation, Chief Enyinnaya Nwafor represented by the wife of a former Deputy Governor, Lady Gladys Nne Nwafor said he will forever support the program of the wife of the Governor and that of the NCWS for their efforts in propagating the cause of women in the State and Society and lauded the present leadership of NCWS in the State for their initiative in building their own Secretariat in the State.
The event which featured the presentation of an award of Excellency to the Deputy Governor Sir Ude Oko Chukwu for his committment and absolute loyalty to his boss and an award of Pillar of Women to the wife of the Governor, Mrs Nkechi lkpeazu among others by the State Chapter of NCWS, attracted the presence of the wife of the Deputy Governor, Lady Vivien Oko Chukwu, the top Government Officials, National and State leadership of National Council For Women’s Societies among other dignitaries.
