NUC ACCREDITATION VISITS GREGORY UNIVERSITY, UTURU FOR ACCREDITATION OF AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM IN THE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE

Following the ongoing accreditation exercise in the Nigerian Universities, Gregory University Uturu is not left out as the National University Council (NUC) accreditation team visits the college of Agriculture amongst other departments in the institution to commence accreditation in the various departments.
After a thorough scrutiny and examination of the various segments of the College, the team leader, Professor Kolade Ayomide in presenting their Exit Report thanked the University for the good work they are doing in the college. “We were quite encouraged by the wonderful works we found here” he said.
In addition, he observed that the students are not overloaded and we are grateful and pleased for that. He pointed out that they will make provision for improvement in the marking scheme so that the students can easily adapt to the dynamic learning environment.
He added that the students need more practical training to enable them put to use what they are been thought. In terms of Laboratories, they commended the University, but suggested that they should try to improve on what is already on ground
The accreditation team said they are encouraged by what they have seen, stressing that the Curriculum was adequate for the structure of programme.
They encouraged the University to subscribe to more books and journals.
In his own words the team leader, Professor Kolade Ayomide, commended the Founder/Chancellor Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, ” am amazed at what one man has done to improve education and by extension contribute to the development and well-being of our nation. If few individuals had done things like this the country would have been a better place. From our findings, the college have few students yet the chancellor invested huge amount of money into it, this shows his determination to assist governments at all levels to make Nigeria the food basket of the world”.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Augustine Uwakwe, said that some universities do not take the study of agriculture serious because many youths do not want to study the course. But notwithstanding that “in Gregory University Uturu, we take agriculture very serious, in fact, it is a serious business here in GUU because it formed part and parcel of everything we do in Nigeria today. Anyone who opposes the program of Agriculture is an enemy to the nation, therefore we are committed to improving the practice of Agriculture in our University. To know how serious we are in the study of Agriculture, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) wants to sponsor the study of Agriculture in Gregory University for those of our scholars in the department of Animal Husbandry. We must find ways to make Agriculture mechanized in our University and set the pace for others to follow” he said.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professort Everistus Anyaehe, thanked the accreditation team for their thorough work and passion exhibited by scrutinize every aspect of college of Agriculture. He expressed satisfaction, saying that they have instilled in them zeal to do more to enable the college grow in the field of Agriculture.
