Abia: Ohuhu Leadership, Stakeholders move To strengthen Security Vigilante outfits as security trend Worsens.

The leadership of Ohuhu Welfare Union Worldwide (OWU), in collaboration with the Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers, today convened an emergency security meeting with critical stakeholders to review the growing security trends in the state, with a view to adopting measures to protect and secure the Ohuhu area.
Recall that there have been growing insecurity in Umuahia and environs with Police stations being attacked by hoodlums, who often kill Police operatives in the wake of the attacks.
The most recent was the attack on the Ubakala Police Division Office, Umuahia South Local Government Area, by gunmen who burnt down the station, and also killed two Police officers during the attack.
The development heightened security concerns in Umuahia and environs, which resulted to some community leaderships to begin to think outside the box, on how best to secure their domain and protect their people from marauding gunmen.
Sir Obi Aguocha, President General Ohuhu Welfare Union Worldwide, while kicking off the meeting, said that what they are doing today, is to put citizens on red alert, and to call on stakeholders to ensure that Ohuhu is safe and secured.
Sir Aguocha stressed that residents should be watchful and keep surveillance, adding that credible information on security developments should be passed to the Traditional Rulers of the Communities, through the village heads and the Ohuhu Viigilante Group (OVG), for onward transmission to other relevant authorities.
According to Sir Aguocha, Ohuhu people and their domain must be protected because their lives matter.
Chairman Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, in his contribution said that the emergency security meeting is important because it’s the living that has the opportunity to go to work or school, adding that we must try hard to see that Ohuhu is defended and protected.
Eze Ofoegbu pointed out that the enemies are in our midst, hence the need for the people to prepare and equip our vigilante outfit (OVG), for the challenges that lies ahead. He appealed to Ohuhu people in diaspora, and well meaning Ohuhu sons and daughters, to come to the aid of the Ohuhu leadership of OWU, in equipping the Ohuhu Vigilante Group (OVG), to enhance its operations.
It was also resolved that a special day of prayers would be held for all Ohuhu sons and daughters to come to God in prayers and commit Ohuhu land in the able hands of Almighty God.
The member representing Umuahia North state constituency, Hon Kelechi Onuzuruike, in his remarks thanked the leadership of Ohuhu Welfare Union for taking pro-active steps to secure Ohuhu land.
Hon Onuzuruike pointed out that we have been receiving reports about herdsmen and hoodlums, saying that it is now “left for us to see how to secure our area”. He spoke on the need for a more concise security meeting, and made a handsome donation towards equipping the Ohuhu Vigilante Group.
Deputy Chairman Umuahia North LGA, Snr. Apostle Bob Agbugba, said the people have to shine their eyes and also try and monitor the youths. He harped on the need for peace as a precursor to security. Hon Agbugba also announced a donation for equipping of the Ohuhu Vigilante Group(OVG). In a similar vein, Mrs Christie Iroaga, promised to help mobilise the Ohuhu in diaspora to be part of the security plan, as she also supported the vigilante group with monetary donation.
Others who spoke at the critical stakeholders’ meeting were: His Excellency, Empire Kanu (Ikoro Ohuhu), Hon Emeka Ejiogu, Revd. Dr Obioma. Chief Eze Ukelonu, the Secretary General, Ohuhu Welfare Union Worldwide while thanking Ohuhu people for the large turnout, despite the short notice, reiterated the the need for a concerted effort to disseminate information to Ndi Ohuhu, of the need for us to work together to secure Ohuhu. He appealed for support from all and sundry because there is work to be done very quickly”.
HRM Eze Philip Ajomiwe, HRM Eze KAN Emekobum, HRM Eze Bobby Aguocha, HRM Eze Paul Uzuegbu and HRM Eze Ukaegbu all took turns to harp on the need for residents to be vigilant and security conscious.
