Rotary Club Of Umuahia Hold Children’s Day Fellowship

Rotary Club of Umuahia, District 9142, Thursday evening, observed the year 2021 children’s day Celebration fellowship, ten years after it was last celebrated.

The event which coincided the Club’s weekly fellowship, saw the Club celebrate the children, grandchildren of Rotarians and other children invited for the programme.

Recall that Children’s Day is celebrated in Nigeria on May 27 as a public holiday for primary and secondary school children. The holiday is celebrated by schools, government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

Speaking during the event in Umuahia, Abia State capital, the Pathfinder President of the Club, Rtn. Lynda Dimgba encouraged parents and caregivers to nurture their children in a socially acceptable standard as future leaders.

She also counselled parents to pay undivided attention to their Children’s moral upbringing in order to spot out bad behaviours and redirect their steps in time for a better society.

Eulogizing the sterling attributes of children, Rtn. Dimgba said, “Today, we remember our children. They are special gifts from God. Children are our hope, our future and our pride.

She expressed happiness and a sense of accomplishment that her leadership was able to revive the children’s day fellowship, which she promised to do during her installation ceremony.

In their respective speeches, Rtn. Lucky Akabuike and Rtn. Ezinne Nwabueze Ibe, Chairman Planning Committee for Rotary Children’s Day Celebration said the Club decided to have a fellowship with the children to let them know what Rotary is all about and what Rotarians do.

Rtn. Akabuike who went further to expose the children to the focus of Rotary, the Catch Them Young approach and the vision of the Club to establish the Interact Club in the near future in one of the schools invited for the programme.

The former President of the Club, Rtn. Chinedu Brown, Rtn. Charles Onyemere, Rtn. Sly Ibeleme, Rtn. Ugochukwu Ajawara among other Rotarians and Rotaractors were present during the Children’s Day Celebration Fellowship which featured one man show entertainment, bouncing ball, birthday celebration and love feast (exchange of gifts).

Meanwhile, the Pathfinder President of Rotary Club of Umuahia, Rtn. Lynda Dimgba has joined other well-meaning Rotarians and Rotaractors to celebrate Rtn. Sir Dickson Nwosu, one of the Club’s member, and a Past Assistant Governor of the Club, who marked an additional year.

Rtn. Dimgba expressed gratitude to God for the good health and new age He blessed Rtn. Dickson Nwosu with, adding, “For us in Rotary, old age is a big asset”.

She enjoined the celebrant – Rtn. Nwosu to always live a life of appreciation and thanksgiving to God, who has all in His hands, as birthday celebration calls for a sober reflection and total thanksgiving to God; a moment of recounting God’s blessings and love.

Responding, the celebrant, Rtn. Dickson Nwosu eulogized the friendship, friendliness and love existing in the Club and appreciated the members of the Club for celebrating him on his special day.
