Ebonyi Communal Clash: Honourable Linus Abba Okorie Calls For Peace Between Ikwo And Izzi Clan

Member who represented Ohanivo Federal Constituency, 2011-2015 has appealed to the people of Izzi and Ikwo clans in Ebonyi state to, as a matter of urgency, end all forms of hostilities and attacks against each other; and embrace peace.

In statement, Chief Linus said it is important to remind Ikwo and Izzi that they are brothers and should never engage in mutual bloodshed, no matter the provocation.

Chief Linus said It is disturbing to note that at a time bordering communities and clans are coming together to forge alliances to find solutions to the menace of killer-herdsmen and other forms of insecurity in the state and the nation in general, Ikwo and Izzi clans are up in arms killing each other over a parcel of ancestral land, that will outlive all of us.

The statement reads “This is a pationate appeal to the good people of Izzi and Ikwo clans in Ebonyi state to, as a matter of urgency, end all forms of hostilities and attacks against each other; and embrace peace.
It is important to remind Ikwo and Izzi that they are brothers and should never engage in mutual bloodshed, no matter the provocation.”

“It is disturbing to note that at a time bordering communities and clans are coming together to forge alliances to find solutions to the menace of killer-herdsmen and other forms of insecurity in the state and the nation in general, Ikwo and Izzi clans are up in arms killing each other over a parcel of ancestral land, that will outlive all of us.”

“It is highly condemnable and I urge the two brothers to sheathe their swords and embrace peace immediately.”

” I commend highly the publicized efforts and commitment of leaders of the two clans towards the return of peace, and urge them not to relent until the the love and peace that hitherto existed between them returns.”

“I also call on all stakeholders and the traditional institution from other clans of the state to see the Ikwo and Izzi crisis as a common problem that must be jointly tackled.”

“To this end, I propose that traditional rulers, town union leaders, the clergy and key political leaders from other clans and blocs urgently convoke a mediation forum to engage the two warring clans in support of ongoing efforts to quickly end the crisis.”

“I also wish to use this opportunity to appeal to traditional rulers, and indeed all stakeholders in the state to enjoin their people not to take precipitate actions that are capable of provoking crisis between them and their neighbours.”

“Finally, let me commend the state government and security agencies for the efforts so far in managing the crisis, and encourage them to be more creative with proactive and intelligence-driven actions to quickly end the carnage and ensure the return of genuine peace.”

Ebonyi is one, and we must live in peace with one another.

Thank you.

Rt. Hon. Linus Abaa Okorie,fca.
