Clearing of grasses begins along Aba Road – Old Umuahia road
Clearing of the buses along Golden Guinea – Afara – Old Umuahia road has began as directed by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
Recall that the Governor had directed the General Manager of ASEPA, Hon. Eze Okwulehie, to immediately take charge of the Ikwuano area as well as ensure immediate evacuation of refuse within the area.
Furthermore, Gov. Ikpeazu had asked him to engage street sweepers to clear grasses and dispose of dirt along Aba Road through Ceramics area to Old Umuahia.
In a statement endorsed by Barr Chris Ezem
Secretary to the State Government on Saturday, Gov. Ikpeazu had directed the immediate removal from office of Mr Jerry Awa, Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) manager for Ikwuano LGA as well as Engr Uzoma Asiegbu, Deputy General Manager, Abia State Public Utilities Management Agency (APUMA) hence their duties fell upon the shoulders of the ASEPA GM.
Barely a couple of hours after the governor’s pronouncement, Hon. Okwulehie embarked on an intervention move at the Ikwuano area, tackling the oversized heaps of dirt that took over most parts, including the MOUAU University Gate and Government College flashpoints.
As at Monday morning, the intervention has paid off as all the refuse that has hitherto, created an eyesore in the area, have been evacuated and discharged while efforts are on to clear the bushes along Golden Guinea – Afara – Ceramics – Old Umuahia road.
Speaking, Hon. Okwulehie described achieving a healthy environment as a work of passion and that he was all round ready to get the work done.
He assured that before the end of the day, the grasses and bushes along the Afara road would have been all cleared to give the area a new look.
