State Of The Nation: Anglican Communion Embarks On Diocesan Prayer Convocation

Perturbed by the ugly trends that consistently strived to envelope Christians and Nigeria as a nation, the Anglican communion, Umuahia Diocese has embarked on a six day Diocesan Prayer Convocation tagged “My Purpose Will Stand”.

Currently, Nigeria is bedeviled with the novel, Corona Virus, COVID-19 pandemic, attacks on the security formations through the activities of the unknown gunmen, confusion everywhere, from the leaders to the led and from one locality to another, armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, prostitution, drunkardness, activities of fraudsters, homosexuality, lesbianism, fornication, cultism and the likes, harsh economic realities, security challenges, unemployment, and many more uncertainties adversely affecting the Christian religion directly.

Declaring the programme open at St. Stephen’s cathedral, Umuahia, Abia State, the Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Rev’d Geoffrey Ibeabuchi encouraged Christians to stand firm in faith in God’s promises, as His purpose for them and the nation must come to fulfillment, no matter the challenges.

Bishop Ibeabuchi who exposed and expounded the theme of the programme, “My Purpose Will Stand”, with text drawn from the Bible book of Isaiah chapter 46 verse 10, said, “God has a purpose for your life, though the devil will strive to stop it, but God’s purpose must stand in your life, in Umuahia, Abia State and Nigeria. No tricks of the devil can stop it.

“Nothing should stop you from working for God. Bury all excuses when it comes to the engagement with God. Always accept the purpose of God by strictly adhering to His word”.

In his sermon captioned, ” When God Says Yes”, with text from the Book of 2 Corinthians chapter 1 verses 19 to 20, the guest preacher, Rev’d Canon Ndubuisi Akubudike reminded the faithful that when God’s time materialized to fulfill His purpose in the country, no policy or individual or a body can stop Him, citing the case of the biblical Nebuchadnezzar.

The Preacher who made further references to the wonders of God in the old and present times, citing the Bible books of Mathew chapter 1 verse 21; John chapter 14 verses 14&19; Revelation chapter 3 verses 7&14; Acts of the Apostles chapter 27 verse 22; Joshua chapter 10 verse 8; Luke chapter 1 verse 5; Exodus chapter 14; and Exodus chapter 3 verse 7 enjoined Christians to wipe away tears as God’s intervention is here.

His words, “The economy is so bad that people finds it difficult to feed like the plight faced by the Israelites in the land of Egypt. Wipe away your tears. Those things that are making you to cry shall not remain. Just as God liberated the Israelites from their oppressors, God will come down because it is time to deliver His people; to fulfill His purpose and set His people free from every yoke”.
