Effiong Bob: Healthy Reflections from the past (1)
It is no news that Sen. Effiong Bob is bracing up for the 2023 governorship election. The Nsit Ubium son who has scored weighty political points can be said to have surpassed the ingredients required of leadership, one of which is experience.
He comes on board with a bevy of what one would term as vast experience, having held the reins of leadership for decades, in several instances. But most important, is his humanitarian efforts which floods his years of experience.
One of such efforts initiated by him towards assisting the less privileged to earn a living was the strategic partnership he entered with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to train youths in the senatorial district to acquire different vocational skills. The Senator provided the funding for the programme and over a thousand youths drawn from the nine local government area making up the senatorial district were beneficiaries of it.
He then provided them with grants to enable them purchase equipment to settle down to practice their trade.
During the 50th anniversary of his Alma Mata, the Salvation Army Secondary School, Akai Ubium, the distinguished Senator donated the sum of One Million Naira (1,000,000) towards the development of the school. He was a student of the school from 1973-1977 from where he left to pursue his Advanced Level GCE at the School of Arts and Science, Uyo, now a campus of the University of Uyo.
As the senator who represented Akwa Ibom North East then, Senator Bob nominated and facilitated a number of federal projects in the national budget for his constituency and the State at large, one of which is the National Museum. It is on record that Senator Bob facilitated the construction of the National Museum in Uyo, the State Capital during his tenure as the Senate Committee Chairman on Culture and Tourism; not forgetting the National Primary Health Care Centre, Ikot Ekwere and Water Project at Ikot Ekwere.
Other projects he masterminded and delivered were: Ikot Ekewere Ubium Urban drainages, Urban Drainages at Atiamkpat/Ikot Ossom, Ikot Ekwere Lot 1, Ikot Obong Itam Water Project Head works and Reticulation, Mini Water Works and Reticulation at Ikot Akpamba, Mini Water Works and Reticulation at Ikot Ekikat as well as Ikot Ntung Water Works Reticulation.
The Senator’s midas touch was also felt in the education sector where he sponsored the Science Quiz Competition among senior secondary schools in collaboration with NTA to encourage the study of science by students in the senatorial district and instituted a scholarship scheme to assist students.
These and more are his credentials portraying him as tested, trusted and preferred. Sen. Effiong Bob is a true leader with unlimited credibility. He did not fail before and won’t fail his people this time. Effiong Bob is coming!
