Abia State Deputy Governor Chief Ude-Oko Okochukwu, has formerly declared his interest to contest the 2023 Governorship election.
Okochukwu, made his intentions to succeed his boss, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, in office at the Peoples Democratic Party, State Secretariat in Umuahia the state capital on Friday.
He noted that governance comes with an enormous challenges and responsibilities, adding that he reached at the decision to run in the Governorship Primary in the State after wide consultations with Family, immediate constituency.
Okochukwu, who was a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and member of the House of Assembly between 2003 till 2011 where he represented Ohafia North State Constituency.
He said, “ I have been actively involved in the Affairs of Abia State in different capacities in the last 18 years. As a good follower and a true leader, I stand before you today to take responsibility as part of the success and shortcomings that Abia has been in the past years of my involvement.
“ Before deciding to offer myself to continue to serve you in different capacity, I have considered deeply the enormous challenges and responsibilities that come with governance.
“If I stand here to tell you that it is an easy task, a jolly ride, a jamboree or a tea party, then I would have started failing myself and my good of Abia State even before the journey starts”.
Okochukwu, a Chattered a Accountant further pointed out, “What I have come to do today is to offer Ndi Abia a humble service, performance and leadership”.
“I was elected into office as deputy governor in a Joint ticket with the present Governor,Okezie Ikpeazu, in 2015, I was re-elected with Governor Ikpeazu in 2019, the only deputy governor to have served full two term tenure with a governor in the history of our State”.
He expressed his gratitude to Governor Ikpeazu for founding him useful and trustworthy to run with him in 2015 and 2019.
Okochukwu, commended the State Chairman of the PDP and members of the State Working Committee and other stakeholders of the Party for providing leadership that has been steering the Party to greatness.
In his remarks, the State PDP Chairman, Dr Alwell Okere, described the deputy governor as a true loyalist, trustworthy and motivator being his former boss at the State House of Assembly.
