Gov Ikpeazu conducting funeral service for PDP in Abia – group
A pro- Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, group, known as PDP Rescue Mandate, PRM, has expressed disgust over the brewing “avoidable crisis” rocking the Abia PDP, accusing Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of “conducting a funeral service” for the party.
According to the group, the Governor’s desperation to install his successor has led to the manipulations and disregard for due process characterising the party’s controversial three-man delegate congress as well as the primaries.
PRM in a strongly-worded press statement, warned that the ruling party would witness “avoidable implosion” in the weeks ahead if the brewing crisis were not immediately resolved.
The statement jointly signed by the group’s Cordinator, Comrade Jerry Nwosu; and Secretary, Ikenna Agbai, said that a number of party chieftains and members including aspirants were already disenchanted with the leadership of the party which “has suddenly become a stooge in the hands of the Governor.”
The statement read in part: ” Our findings revealed that Abia PDP will witness mass exodus in a matter of days. So many of the aspirants who feel sidelined and betrayed by the party because of one man’s desperation will soon leave PDP with their teeming supporters.
” We have played into the hands of the opposition simply because the Governor threw caution to the winds in his desperation to install his annointed successor without carrying the party elders and other stakeholders along.
” How can they sit down and write the list of three-man delegates and claim there was delegate congress, and still expect members to remain in the party? A party that has not observed simple internal democracy, how can it be trusted in the main election?
” Whether or not they believe it, the truth is that Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu is conducting the funeral service for the final burial of PDP in Abia. The Asiforo Okere-led State Working Committee, SWC, of the party are the undertakers. The self succession agenda of the Ngwa clan will be the burial ground of Abia PDP.
” Very soon they will come to terms with realities. By the time they wake to hear that everybody has left them, then they will understand that you can’t beat a child and ask him not to cry. Over 70% of PDP aspirants are already on their way out of the leaky umbrella”.
The group further said that the recent confusion arising from court injunction concerning the use of three-man delegates in the conduct of the party primaries would “prepare the ground for the entire exercise to be an exercise in futility by the time someone goes to court for proper interpretation”.
The group advised the Governor to restrain himself and stop behaving as if PDP is his private estate unless he was hired by the opposition to destroy the ruling party before leaving office?”
