Abia Guber: I’m Not Running for Personal Aggrandizement, But to Salvage Abia ~ Gen Ijioma

A retired Army General and the leading All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Governorship aspirant in Abia State, General Ijioma Nwokoro Ijioma, (rtd), has said leadership deficit in Abia, propelled him to come out of retirement to salvage the state.

General Ijioma said a critical review of activities in Abia (God’s Own State) right from creation in 1991 till date, shows that the State is in need of a selfless leader who will transform the fortunes of Abia and her people, revealing that he didn’t join the race for personal aggrandizement but to serve with all his strength if given the mandate .

The retired General who made the revelation on Thursday at his Office located along No 6A Factory Road, Umuahia while briefing newsmen, said Abia has not lived to the expectations of her forefathers, adding that despite deriving her name from the Bible and having a unique motor, “God’s Own State”, the State is yet to be counted in the league of States doing well.

He maintained that Abia has been plunged into further destruction by her leaders who themselves have sworn not to change the narratives of Abians through purposeful leadership, stressing that they have also failed to pay salaries, construct roads, while claiming that Abia is God’s Own State.

Ijioma said he is a man on a mission to restore humanity, noting that “our humanity has been taken away by bad leaders in the State”, revealing that his interactions with Abians of goodwill have further shown the level of dehumanization they have passed through just as he stated that Abia has been mocked and portrayed as poor people even on national Television

He stated that since joining APGA, he has contributed immensely to the growth of the party, emphasizing that he is the most suitable to fly the flag of the party by virtue of the fact that he has a clear-cut manifesto and has all it takes to protect the votes of Abians if willingly given to him.

General Ijioma reeled out his plans for Abia which he captioned the 5Rs: Rescue, Repair, Restore, Revive and Rebuild Abia, pointing out that insecurity has been a problem, pledging to focus on intelligence gathering driven by technology so as to nab perpetrators of crime if elected Governor.

He stated his plans to revive the economy of the State, saying that he will allow the private sector to drive the economy of the State.

General Ijioma, expressed the level of decay in the Judicial system, assuring that he will refurbish the Judiciary, make sure that rule of law will be the hallmark of the judiciary, law will be respected, noting that houses will be built for retiring judges to ensure that justice is dispensed.

On the Hospitality industry, the APGA Guber hopeful, pledged to build five star hotels in Umuahia, Abia, decrying that no conferences hold in the state due to absence lodging facilities just as he promised to invest in the Tourism industry if elected.

He promised to improve the transportation system in Aba which according to him, will be the flagship of his administration, pledging to make Aba the pride of the South-East, stressing that the expertise are in Aba but no financial support while also stating his plans to transform Umuahia by giving it a befitting touch that portray it as the state capital.

He pledged to make huge impacts by building Research Development Centres, improve on electricity and energy, transform the Azumini Blue River to a tourist site through boating service, improve the poor healthcare system in Abia by building a 400 bed space International hospital in Abia, 200 bed space in Senatorial zones of the State, among others.

General Ijioma promised to increase the budget allocated for education in the State, while also assuring women and youth in the State of changing their fortunes through human faced policies and programmes.

General Ijioma who also used the opportunity to criticize the level at which money is being thrown in the State, wondering why the monies were not thrown before now that the masses have been suffering, reminding APGA party delegates that the choice is in their hands.

He said the change is not about him, but about Abians who deserve a better life for their families and their future, maintaining that even if he is not given the mandate, he will not leave the party for anyone.

He once again called on party faithful and delegates to shine their eyes by resisting the temptation of selling their conscience for a pot of portage, insisting that APGA parades the best candidates in the entire state as whoever emerges from the four contestants will go ahead and clinch the Abia number 1 seat come.2023.

Ijioma called on organisers of the Party primaries to ensure that the election is free, fair and credible, saying he will challenge the outcome of the primaries if it was not transparent
