Youth Corps Members to Get Lodge in Umuahia as Abia Speaker Supports Okwulaga Women’s Project, Ohobo Hall Project and Umuizu Electrification Needs

The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and the Peoples Democratic Party flagbearer for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency at the forthcoming general elections today attended the N25 Million Naira Fund Raising And Award Ceremony For the Completion Of A ‘Corpers’ Lodge by the Okwulaga Development Union (Women’s Wing) at Okwulaga Civic Hall, in Okwulaga Autonomous Community, Afaraukwu, Umuahia LGA.

While presenting her address at the well attended event with the theme: “Our Home A Better Place To Live”, President of the Union, Mrs Adaugo Melody Uche-Eluwa welcomed the guests and stressed on The Role Of Women In Community Development which she said inspired the Union to embark on the completion of a ‘Corpers’ Lodge which she described as one that will be a lifetime legacy in the community. She therefore called on all those present to donate generously towards the realisation of the project.

While speaking, the Speaker, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji expressed delight at being at the event, saying he is always at home with the people of Okwulaga. He recalled the support he had given to the people in the past for similar projects and some facilities he had brought to the community, saying he can never be tired of responding positively to such calls from them as he would keep doing more through his Direct Touch Initiative. He reiterated that the only reasin he is in public service is to keep providing dividends of democracy to the people and their communities.

The Speaker whose speech was intermittently punctuated by songs celebrating him as rendered by the youths, women and other groups present, admonished against animosity from anyone in the run up to the forthcoming elections, reminding all that “we are all brothers” and that “the elections will come and go and we shall still remain brothers”.

He urged the people to consider only candidates like himself who have shown competence and enormous capacity to bring real dividends of democracy to the people while voting at the forthcoming general elections.

While acknowledging the developmental efforts of the President-General of Afaraukwu and the Presidents-General of the respective communities therein, the Speaker hailed Chief Charles Offor, chairman of Ohobo community, for the projects especially the modern community hall recently completed under his leadership. He announced a handsome donation in support of the modern hall project and promised to resolve the issues surrounding one of the community’s transformers.

The Speaker hailed the women for their noble objective of completing the said ‘Corpers’ Lodge and made his donation to that effect which drew a thunderous round of applause from the people.

While thanking the Speaker for his generousity towards Ohobo in particular and Okwulaga as a whole, Chief Charles Offor appealed to the Speaker to still consider helping Umuizu, another community in Okwulaga, get their transformer which broke down recently, restored. The Speaker immediately obliged the request.

Other dignitaries present at the event include a former Chairman of Abia State Board of Internal Revenue and Leader of Afaraukwu Political Forum, Prof Udochukwu Ogbonna, Councillor representing Ward 5 and Leader of Ugwu Okwulaga Forum, Honourable Andrew Uwaga, the traditional ruler of Okwulaga Afaraukwu, HRH Eze Eddy Ibeabuchi (Okwu 1 of Okwulaga), President General of Afaraukwu, Chief Ugwumba Oriaku, President General of Okwulaga, Chief Levi Ogbonna, President General of Isiama community, Engr Ebogu OAU, President General of Ohokobe na Umuokeyi, Engr John Nwagwu who was represented by the President of Afaraukwu Youth Association, Mr Alozie Irokansi, Chief Emma Iroegbu, the PDP candidate for Umuahia Central State Constituency, Pastor Ugochukwu Uchegbu, his APC counterpart, Hon Kenneth Nkemakolam Adighije and the APP candidate, Mr Uche Offor, Prince Mayor, Clergymen, youth and women group leaders.
