2023 AFRDC: ABIA CELEBRATES IN GRAND STYLE

The year 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration (AFRDC) which is an annual event was celebrated in grand style Sunday 15 January 2023 at Aguiyi Ironsi Cenotaph, Umuahia, Abia State.

The colourful event celebrated to honour members of the Nigerian Armed Forces who paid the supreme sacrifice in various engagements, in ensuring the peace, security and unity of our beloved Country Nigeria.

The Special Guest of Honour, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD ably represented by his deputy, Right Honourable Udeh Oko Chukwu, appreciates sacrifices by the Armed Forces particular those who paid the supreme price in various operations, in ensuring the oneness of our dear nation, their families, the veterans and the living who are not tired in carrying their duties whenever it calls.

“We would continue to support and partner with families of the fallen heroes, legion, veterans and the living” he added.

Right Honourable Udeh reiterate the need to resolve and leave as one body. Adding that all well meaning Nigerians especially leaders at various position need to put hands on desk in building our nation for a better future.

Earlier, special Juma’at Prayers were offered on Friday 6 January at the Central Mosque and an Inter-denominational Service at Saint Peter’s Presbyterian Church on Sunday 8 January 2023 both at Umuahia.

The clergies preached on peace and a united Nigeria. Offered special prayers for the repose of their lives, their families, veterans and for the living.

The event had a colourful ceremonial parade, laying of wreaths for the fallen heroes, last post, release of pigeons which signify peace, security and unity our beloved nation.

Dignitaries at the ceremonial occasion include the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD ably represented by his deputy Right Honourable Udeh Oko Chukwu, Commander 14 Brigade Nigerian Army Brigadier General Adegoke Adetuyi, representative of Commandant Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance Navy Captain MS Idris, heads of others security agencies, Chairman Abia State traditional rulers and loving people of Abia.
